Fishing 2008

Great but coooold, boys

Ein sehr schöner Fisch, Mathias! Der Meterhecht kommt bald!

Well, this one is actually from 2007 - a cold and windy day on November 5. I instructed David and Johan in the fishing group from my school how to jig vertically and they found it ever so thrilling. David had this nice walleye and they also tried some walleye trolling. We made a fire on shore and grilled some sausages. Fishing in November can be sensational but VERY COLD!!!

Mathias visited Sweden also last year and now had brought fellow fisherman Lothar along. On June 17 we went pike fishing in order to catch one or two meter pikes. Instead of that they had in all 20 smaller pikes and a great fishing day. About half of them we had trolling and the rest Mathais and Lothar caught spin fishing with yellow spinners. Some perch wanted to feed as well. Mathias new PB is now 800 gram perch. Super gut!

Man muss ab und zu Pause machen

Never go fishing without food and/or fika

We fished in My Linder 440 Fishing. I used the petrol motor trolling and slowly drifted along the shore with the help of the electric motor when they fished with spinners. Mathias and Lothar are both experienced fishermen, so my job was mainly to put the boat where the fish was. A group of computer workers from ATEA had chosen a day with me on my zander lake as a pleasant group activity. I provided the fishing equipment and also food. I started on shore and demonstrated the way we were going to fish and how the rods and reels worked. I also showed the wobblers that the zander of the lake like. They certainly liked my chicken with fresh potatoes and salad.

Very good!

What a fish!

We fished in three boats in very nice weather conditions. I was very happy to see my old reel Abumatic in use again. As you can see Johan caught this zander using it and then it was also used to catch the biggest zander of the evening. To the right. As long as your fishing equipment works well it doesn't matter if it's old or new. I had more modern things to offer as well. We trolled most of the time around the spots that keep zander. I also showed some of the boys vertical jigging for a while. Fishing was pretty slow and there were few bites. There was also no real rush around sunset like there normally is.

Plummers are great fishermen

The participants were ever so happy with the adventure. Some of them tried zander fishing for the very first time and learned a lot. I enjoyed the day so much as this is an extremely positive group of people. It's great for ATEA to have a bunch of workers like that. On July 3 my friend Pelle had his friend Niklas (above) with him in my boat. Pelle had promised Niklas a zander fishing trip as a birthday present. Did he turn 25? Niklas hadn't fished for a long time so he really liked the gift. Niklas had a pretty good zander on the hooks of his jig but lost it before I could net it. I had just showed him the basics of vertical jigging and somehow he fooled a zander right away. That's unusual.

Wow!

Denmark is leading!

The zander were biting the whole evening and fishing was great. We trolled my usual round and the fish were much more eager to bite than during the ATEA event. The boys tried some of their lures but the zander here certainly prefer mine. 10 zander were caught, mainly by the guest of honour - plummer Niklas.

Pelle was content behind his shades. Can you see me in my chic fishing hat in the background? No? What a relief!!
A week before that Michael on June 21, keen fisherman from Denmark, wanted to try vertical jigging with me. We couldn't do that so much as the wind was far too strong. I showed him how to go about and what equipment to use anyway. Instead we trolled with side planers, something Michael had never tried before. He liked the Great Light a lot.

Back in Denmark he went to try Wallaye Runner + planer board
"Jeg skiftede til wobler og fik så gedde på 5,5 – 5,0 – 2,5 kg og sidst men ikke mindst Kl. 21.30 Gøs på 4,4 kg. Fantastisk tur. Alle fisk tog dine Walleye Runner fisket med paravane, kun et nap på woblerne uden paravane, det er utroligt hvilken forskel det gør.
In the lakes I fish and certainly in Michael's the planers often catch more fish than wobblers fished on "free rods". (forskel means difference)

Don't worry. There are more where he came from.

Well, can't you get a better hat?

This is my fishing pal Christian, a little older now, than on the nice photos in "Gösfiske". He pretends to be surprised as the zander I was going to photograph had just managed to jump back into the water. No big deal - we had some more doing vertical jigging. I have now managed to learn the tricks behind vertical jigging. I have found some hot spots and I also feel the bites and react much quicker.  I ONLY bring my two vertical rods, reels + jigs with me now. That way it's impossible to switch to trolling. Fox Slayer Watermelon was responsible for this one early in the morning of July 8.

Ich gratuliere!

Well done, boys!
Michael from Germany wanted to learn everything about trolling for pike. I showed him how to set out the rods, two free ones and two with side planers, and he managed very quickly to take care of it all. I helped him net the pikes with my new net made of rubber. We used wobblers and also big jigs, especially made for pike. The jigs had more bites than the wobblers on this windy day, July 16.

63, 65, 65, 65 and 70 cm were the lengths of the pikes we got into the net. We had more bites that we missed, so the pikes were really hungry that afternoon. The pikes were the first Michael had caught.  That explains the huge smile. He has taken up fishing recently.
On September 23 Emil and Jacob (above) from the fishing group at my school were with me to learn vertical jigging. That was no problem at all as fishing was great and we had 22 zander in the boat. We missed quite a few as well. Emil was the most successful.

This one measured 70 cm and Jacob was somewhat happier than he normally is at school. He smiles there as well but this day was something else
.

Well, the teacher felt the hard pressure from the kids and right away caught this - just to show them. 80 cm! Both boys are already dedicated vertical fishermen. "I don't want to fish any other way", Emil said. We fished around four spots I had marked and at three of them there were lots of zander more than willing to bite. My old fishing buddy Christer had huge problems with the vertical jigging to start with but this year they totally disappeared. He catches with ease now and had this nice fish on October 18. We only fished for 3 hours due to very hard weather but managed to catch 14 anyway. Go Lakers Go!

Fishing was this year very good with great catches the whole season until early November.
