Go, Lara, go! Mr Kjell Johansson in person C & R, definitely
The best photo of 2009. Lara with a pike not so willing to be photographed Although this zander season was not as good as the previous we have had quite a lot of bigger fish.

Huge dead pike with half-swallowed big bream. The whole story was published in fiske-feber. Shorter version further down here. Dead pike to the right, by the way...

I have now put comfortable seats in my fishing boat. More comfort - more fish!?

From today on you'll here find an up-to-date description of the sport fishing situation around here in Smaland.

Fishing at the moment: July 3rd - I will become better at up-dating this...

What a beauty!

Hot fishing

We have a long heat wave at the moment and this affects fishing of course. Mostly positively. Heat is great for perch fishing and the fish gets livelier end hunt in shallow areas. Spin fishing with small spinners and jigs is the right method. The depth should be 1-3 meters. Get out there and try!

Walleye love hot water and also feed more right now. Try early mornings and around sunset. Trolling slowly with baits around 3 meters is perfect. Also vertical fishing can at time produce fish. Wallye fishing has been 5really good for a while.

Leave the shallow areas in search for pike. Trolling and live bait fishing in deeper areas are correct right now. Also pike have activity periods in the morning and late afternoon. Last week I guided a German couple, who had 17 pike in broad daylight. They were amazed.

By the way; it is very easy and cheap to fly to Smaland. From Düsseldorf (Weeze) you can reach Smaland Airport Vaxjo in about an hour. You will land right in the heart of a beautiful hot fishing area 15 minutes from where I live. You don't need to bring fishing gear - I have everything you need.

Fishing guide - Pike, zander and perch

If you are in Smaland, Sweden you shouldn't miss the opportunity to try our great fishing.

I take you boat fishing or ice fishing throughout the year. In one of my very interesting waters you can use my equipment, or your own, in search of the three main predators of this area – pike, perch and zander. The US zander-cousin is of course called walleye.

My speciality is using easy-to-learn methods. I fish from boats with “normal” gear. After having fished once or twice with me it’s easier for you next time to be much more successful on your own. I will demonstrate fishing equipment suitable for these waters.

This service is suitable for groups. I provide food and drinks. Thus it is a perfect adventure for companies who want something out of the ordinary for groups of staff. Being outdoors in wonderful surroundings is a sensation even without fishing experience.

I caught him!

FAQ

How long can we fish? Early morning to noon or afternoon to evening are most common in summer. That is about 6 hours or longer if you'd prefer that. In winter the days are shorter so it will be the whole day.

Where do we fish? I mostly fish around Växjö in Kronobergs län in Smaland.

What things do I need to bring along? I have everything you will need, but using your own rod is often nice. If you have life vests bring them. Otherwise I can lend you some. If you like your equipment to be adapted to fishing here bring it along and I’ll help you with some tips. If you're here on a business trip you may need some extra clothes - I have some.

What will I do in the boat or on the ice? You are the fisherman so I shall steer the boat to hot spots and let you take care of as much as possible of the actual fishing. After having shown you how it works of course.

Is this suitable for children?
Yes, indeed. Couldn't be better. It's a great adventure.

If I don’t know anything about fishing – Can I come? Yes, again. I have fished with lots of beginners and that’s not a drawback. You will learn quickly.

Will I catch anything? I'm known for being on the right spot, at the right time, using the right method and not to forget, the best lures. Then the odds for successful fishing are really good. So far we have caught fish every time I have guided.

Will I learn anything? YES! I have a learning garantee, which means that however much or little you know I will teach you more. All about trolling! Everything about vertical jigging!

Will I need a fishing license? In all waters fishing licenses are needed and are not included in my price. I’ll help you buy the ones you need. Prices are low – day 25-60 kronor and about 100-150 for a week. Kids can often fish without a license and it's often enough for a family to get one.

This sounds just wonderful – how much will it cost me? Depending on fishing time, if you want food, drinks or other activities the price will be decided from time to time. Just get in contact with me and we’ll work it out.

Price example
Eight hours of fishing in my boat on one of "my" lakes. Including fishing guide, all equipment, fuel, life vests and baitfish. Food, drinks and fishing licenses are not included but I'll provide that if you want to. I will also help you during the rest of your stay here. Bait tips, where to rent a boat, where to buy equipment and so on. Just give me a call.

One person - 135
(1400 Sw. crowns)
Two persons - 175 € (1800 crowns)

Please contact me for prices and information on ice-fishing, if you'd like me to help you with your fishing for a longer period or if you are more than two persons. Ihave more than one boat and welcome also larger groups.

PS! I give free advice about anything concerning fishing in the county of Kronoberg. Just phone or send me an e-mail. I can also help you to hire boats and motors.

On Jan 5 we had (thin) ice and fishing could start. Christan, his dad and me went to one of my "zander" lakes. It ended up with a new PB for Christian. A pike of 7 kilo hit his baitfish and gave him quite a fight. He was as happy as ever. We had some zander as well that day. Christian was lucky to start with, not only with pike. At  sunrise on January 24 he had a bite and ran to get his rod. It resulted in one more personal best. 5 kilo was this nice zander. Even though we did not catch much more that day we were content.

Driving home we suddenly met this elk and two family members. They stood in the middle of the road. We parked at he roadside and could study them for five minutes. Three elks and a record zander. What a day! This fish I managed to hook on February 3 - a fantastic fishing day. There was a real biting frenzy in the morning and we had lots of nice work attending to our rods. It measured 79 cm, and a little more now as we release our fish.

TOLL, Peterchen!

Well, what can you say? This beautiful zander was caught by Peter, 7 years old. It was his last day of his vacation in Smaland. It weighs 5 kilo and is 75 cm. When he let it go it waved goodbye with a real splash. This was in the morning of Febr 20. Fishing was really good (2-4 zander a day) during the cold weeks with thick, but was even better this pretty mild day.
Probably just luck!? Not too big but I caught it!

This was my biggest ice zander this memorable winter season. It was thick and in perfect condition - 85 centimetre and 6.7 kilo. I fished on my own on March 8 so I had to place it on the ice for the photo. No harm done - it was a mild day and it splashed goodbye when it was set free.

Christer with Fireball zander on June 6. He had just bought a new vertical rod and reel. It worked the way it should.

What will happen in 2010?

This is my friend Martin - a truly great vertical fisherman. I showed him a little how to fish in 2008 and he right away bought equipment and started training. This spring he had some fantastic fishing days. He had a wild bite on his FIN-S and caught a 8.560 92 cm long zander. A fantastic record for someone who tried the method for almost the first time. One of the largest vertical zanders in Sweden I suppose. Fishing with me in my boat a couple of days later he produced the fish above. Then he had another huge one on the line, that we sadly enough lost while netting it. GREAT JOB, Martin!

Great, Casswall!

A good figter

In the middle of May I went fishing with jerk bait fishermen Casswall och Johansson. We tried other methods as well and had about eight pike that day. I tried some vertical fishing and was rewarded with this nice perch.
Christian does it again

and again

Jigging for zander works, folks!

Nice jigging, Ingvar

Great expectations

I see it ALL!

Yours truly "at work" watching Channel Zander - a Lowrance X510 Colour, steering with the Vector 55 and the Yamaha Four stroke. His third eye is on the Garmin GPS 72.
I can't stand it no more

Kein Ekli!

Andreas and I found this dead pike floating on the surface. It had been killed by overeating, choked to death, probably. It had a big wound probably from a monster pike. It had hit this tiny fellow (20 pounds with the bream) when it tried to swallow the big bream stuck in its throat. I make the funny face because of the weight + the terrible smell. It did not die the day before exactly...The whole true story to be found in the great magazine fiske-feber
A friend of mine may have met the guilty pike as he caught and released a 121 cm monster pike on his first ice fishing day.

Andreas and daughter Lara come here every year to fish. In 2009 Gianni with his son Luca were with them. We had a great pike fishing day with lots of bites. They'll be back next year as well.

Watch out!

Luca and Lara trolling for pike. The best photo of 2009! Pike don't always want to pose for the photographers.
Ich hab es gesehen! Es ist wahr!

Big one

Gianni der Rotaugekönig aus der Schweiz! Well he had some bigger ones as well and not "mört".

I am happy

What a hat, man!

Viele Hechte

Great fishermen

Chrille, you are the zander king Just before giving up that day

Wa have caught some bigger zander in their normal feeding period - just at sunset and 30 minutes after the sun's rays no longer reach the water. Christer's fine fish hit the bait after sunset..

and mine, 6,6 kilo and 86 cm, took an 18 cm Nils Master (colour 4) trolled very slowly close to the bottom on a 3-way rig. The sun had just disappeared.

Happy on the ice

Simon the King

My last fishing day in my boat was Dec 13. Then I intended to have a break. Luckily there was cold weather. Christian and I managed to get out on Dec 23. Christian had two zander and a small very, dark pike. I lost something heavy, probably a zander as it did not make any pike rushes. It stepped off before we had a glimpse of it. A fine start of the ice fishing season anyway. Nice to be back after my l-o-n-g boring break.

On New Year's Eve - a perfect day for fishing I brought my grill onto the ice. Lots of friends came to watch us fish and to have a sausage. Fishing was good and we had nine pike in all. Simon was King of the Day with this 7,1 kilo beauty. It was in great condition despite the wound on its side.

Kjell Johansson? Who's that?

I am an English and German teacher. I also write teaching material for schools and books and articles about fishing.

Apart from fishing a lot all through the year I do extensive studies on the biting behaviour of pike and zander. A book about zander and zander fishing ("Gösfiske - Fakta och fisketips") was published in 2006. By knowing the habits of the prey fishing gets much easier. My first book, written with fishing partner Christer Svensson, is about the regular biting times of pike. We caught 2000 and checked what time this happened! It still works.

My main method when ice-fishing is ice-angling with about 10 rods. I fish for pike, zander and perch.

Trolling and vertical jigging are my main methods in search of pike and zander. I fish with jigs and spinners when I want perch to bite. I do have waters that produce trophy fish.
